International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day – Friday, Sept. 8th

International Literacy Day on September 8 will be celebrated across the world under this year’s theme of Literacy in a Digital World.”

Spearheaded in 1966 by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), this global observance reminds the international community of the importance of literacy for individuals, communities and societies, and the need for intensified efforts towards more literate societies.  This year’s theme takes a look at what kind of literacy skills people need to navigate increasingly digitally-mediated societies and to explore effective literacy policies and programs that can leverage the opportunities that the digital world provides.
